Healthy Homemade (Chicken Optional) Shish Kebabs

Not sure about you but I really enjoy a TASTY kebab

Especially gyros and the like

Of course back in the day I would have enjoyed a 'donor' kebab after a night out haha

Although that stuff isn't even meat which is why it should be an occasional thing. That said, these days, if ordering from a takeaway, I actually prefer a shish kebab. You know actual chunks of REAL meat grilled with salad and a pitta

Which isn't such a bad choice of takeaway until you start adding those sauces (and all the hidden nasty and cals)

Thing is, if you've been following for a while you'll know that the warrior wellness system is about sustainable nutrition, as we both know diets don't work, alongside regular exercise...

Which is why I have my own healthier recipes for some of these occasional foods which means I can consume the foods I enjoy daily which of courses makes it sustainable!

Above, homemade chicken shish (marinade) kebab with homemade tzatziki sauce and flatbread - Although I also tend to make my own homemade tortilla wraps (check out the Mexican food post) so I can have these kebabs as wraps.

Which therefore ALSO makes them even more natural (less processed) than pitta's and breads etc

OMG!!! Honestly brilliant, so tasty and easy to make. Thank you! – Ben Herbert

Below, little look at (and message) from Ben one of our online wellness warriors enjoying this kebab recipe

I'm a big believer in not having any food restrictions. Diets don't work we BOTH know that

It's going to be really tough to stick to a diet if you don't like the foods, right?

Also, the fact that I help coach a LOT of busy professionals who want to take back control of their overall wellbeing

So they look, move, and feel great and sustain it

Therefore, enjoying your food and meals is VITAL for ongoing success and consistency

Shish Kebabs (Chicken/meat optional)

The Ingredients

Marinade:

  • 1/3 cup soya sauce

  • 1/4 cup lemon juice

  • 1/2 cup olive oil

  • 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce

  • 2 teaspoon minced garlic

  • 1 tablespoon Italian herbs

  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder

Mix and cover your marinated chicken (meat of choice) for minimum of 4 hours and ideally overnight.

Below, marinated and grilled chicken shish kebab meat!

Directions

  1. Cut your meat of choice into kebab size chunks and add to oven/grill proof dish

  2. I will then grill the meat, with a little of the marinade cover, over medium heat to make more of an authentic kebab

  3. Turn regularly until the meat is fully cooked (12-15 mins?) so as to get that charcoal effect

  4. Cut red onion and peppers (or veg/salad of choice)

  5. Now fill your pitta, flatbread, or wrap (tortilla wrap video below) with meat and salad

  6. Add a generous amount of the tzatziki sauce (below)

  7. Enjoy!

Tzatziki Sauce (kebab dip)

Finely chop and add garlic and cucumber to plain yogurt, alongside a little salt/pepper and lemon juice and then marinade in the fridge for a minimum of one hour!

Below is a short video demonstrating how to make the homemade tortilla's, taken from our Mexican food recipes, if you'd prefer to have your kebabs in a 'wrap' ?

There you have it...

Another tasty healthy homemade recipe option/alternative

Now go try them out, but don't forget...
